Rain.

We are leaving tomorrow morning at 4 am, so while the kids played and watched videos I packed our bags and Gerry packed the car top carrier.
Karl:  Katie hit me!
Katie:  Lindsay’s cheating at Go Fish!
Lindsay:  Karl didn’t give me a turn!
Bradley:  [stabbing himself accidently with the dagger while jumping on the sofa] Ooowwwwww!
Billy:  [scooters through a puddle and wipes out in the middle of it] My jammies are wet!  I have an ouchie on my knee!
Making shell jewelry on the porch
By 1 pm everyone was stir crazy so we ventured out to Fort Macon (“This fort was built for WAR, not SAFETY.  Be careful!”) in the drizzle.

For some reason, we’ve never been to the visitor center at Fort Macon before today.  But the downpour and need for a bathroom drove us inside.  They have a (new?) museum and historical movie that are both very good.  The grounds around the fort were so wet, it was spongy.  It was such a novelty that I took off my shoes and pressed my toes into the grass just to feel the water pool around my toes.  Billy and Bradley had fun ‘skating’ on the water while Katie, Lindsay and Karl climbed the walls.  Everyone came home soaked, tired and happy.

We’ll be sad, sad, sad to leave tomorrow.  Even though we’ve been here for more than 2 weeks, it still feels short.  And we didn’t get to see as many people as we would have liked.  Emerald Isle really is a great place to visit.  Many thanks to Gayle and family for hosting us and especially for making us feel so welcome.  And thanks, too, to Mom for being such a big help with the kids, cooking…well, everything!  We created a lot of memories on this trip.
Daisy will miss Blue.  She beat him up so that saying good-bye
wouldn't be so difficult.
