Today was spent at Bottle Beach – a small sandbar between the point at Emerald Isle and Hammocks Beach. It was really smoky this morning. I heard that the Holly Shelter fire is 100K acres and has been burning for a month or so. When the wind is to the SW, the smoke rolls in down here. PU. By 10:30, the wind changed directions, blowing the smoke back inland.

You can barely see the Coast Guard Station behind the boat, to the right |
Thanks to Jamie McLaughon for trekking us across the ICW! He grilled hot dogs (Billy ate 2 and Katie ate 3!) – yum! We joined the rest of the small boats in the greater Camp Lejeune area for some floating fun and a (very) little fishing. It was a great day.

Can't see Swansboro on the other
side of the sound. :( |

We caught many critters today. And we let them all go.
Except for the already-dead ones. |

Ouch! David 'catches' a crab.
(Dead one.) |

Billy: There are pirates next door! |
Gerry grilled salmon on the new grill, I roasted veggies, and Gayle baked bread for dinner. The grown-ups ate well while the kids complained about the various components (except the bread, of course). They are playing so well together and everyone wishes we lived closer to one another.
Me: Bradley, does your mom let you jump on the sofa like that?
Bradley: I don’t know. I didn’t ask her.
Looks like so much fun! Stay safe, happy, full of food and have a Happy 4th!
